Guiding Dispositional Values for Counselors

    • Bring cultural awareness to the classroom through lessons and activities.
    • Open communication with co-workers, administration, parents, and community members within the placement to show respect and rapport to all. Providing annual training for staff members and students throughout the school year.

 

Reflection

Growth within the dispositional values involved training and exposure through internships and hands-on experiences. Having a growth mindset is a cornerstone in becoming and sustaining a positive career in the counseling field. The act of showing and giving respect to peers, self, and students is palpable and noticed by all, and will help build trust in a new relationship that we are trying to establish. Multicultural counseling competencies. (CACREP 2.F.2.c) allows for a clear understanding of what is needed for respecting boundaries and rights of others we may encounter during our day. (CACREP 2.F.2.h) insures we are identifying barriers in gaps for students and personal biases within ourselves that may be contributing to unequal biases towards others.
