Managing my growth

As a newer counselor receiving feedback from supervisors is instrumental for me to build skills to best serve others. The ASCA National Model provides a wide variety of templates and tools to collect data for counseling services and stakeholders (ASCA). As a new counselor working closely with my principal and site supervisor, we have adhered closely to ASCAs student standards. The use of academic planners and personalized education plans has helped me understand the importance of academic planning and forecasting. Collaborating with students, families, teachers and stakeholders to analyze current data for school program improvements. The use of surveys has also been a powerful tool for me to understand what the student needs are. As a new counselor I have learned and began to utilize ASCAS three core actions of management, delivery and assessment of services delivered (ASCA). I have been able to put into action equitable counseling services for all students despite difference in beliefs and personal choices. I have also included healthy environments that are free from bullying, harassment and discrimination (ASCA,2022). As a newer counselor I am very aware of my potential personal biases and have been staffing with my supervisors. I utilize a  person-centered approach when working with students, which allows me to meet them where they are currently without judgement. I rely on peer support and supervision throughout the day to ensure I am delivering best practices to the students at all times.

Feedback and reflection

Continuous reflecting on feedback from supervisors is a crucial part of my development. As a newer counselor I utilize this feedback to create a structured plan for self-improvement, ensuring I'm consistently growing and honing my skills as a newer school counselor. I have utilized Holly Sarich as my site supervisor for this internship. Our weekly meetings allow for open and honest feedback involving my strengths weaknesses.

Self-assessment and growth

I regularly utilize self-assessment tools to pinpoint both my strengths and areas where I need to grow. This proactive approach allows me to address challenges head-on and build upon my existing skills, ensuring continuous professional development.

Program evaluation

Systematically and continuously evaluating the comprehensive school counseling program is essential to ensure I am meeting the needs of all students. This ongoing assessment allows me to make necessary adjustments and improvements, maximizing the program's impact and effectiveness.
